Cherry plum trees make great sloe gin ( plum gin).

reminds me of picking plums as a teenager with wasps buzzing me....tben trying to sell tbem at the local picnic spot. i always worried incase school friends spotted me. Moving to a smallholding was a massive culture shock as a teenager...especially morning goat milking for our breakfast cereal. Now i would love it but then it made me resentful.

It wouldn't be a home renovation without drilling through a pipe and not having the right screws, right?? Honestly, though, things are looking amazing, you guys are doing great. Thanks for continuing to bring us all along for the ride! Have you guys thought about investing in a fruit picker? The kind on a long pole with a bag or basket attached. They're pretty cheap here in the US, not sure about the cost in Portugal.

Good morning from Colorado! Bless you both! One of the reasons I love your channel is you are willing to film the randomness of life with it's highest highs and lowest lows. I say this with the total understanding of how often "Murphy's Law" decides to pick the most inconvenient moments to throw a spanner in the works. You and John are two people who know how to "go with the flow". May I suggest (and I might be far too late from when you film or when you release the video) If Amazon will deliver this to Portugal, buy two or three rolls of a product called Flex Tape. This is a miracle which seals holes and makes things water tight. I've used it on my roof and it really works! You can also buy it in liquid form and paint it on for larger areas. I haven't personally used this, but I'm told it works well too. If John is concerned about leaks in gutters, screw holes in roof panels, or just those goofy places where a hole has popped up. Flex Tape really works. Regardless, keep on enjoying your family, farm and projects. ((((hugs to you all))))

Your channel has grown so much!! So deserved - you do such an incredible job on editing and thinking about all your shots. And your narration is so great and just everything, really. I bet you have, but just in case, have you considered an outdoor shower? The thing that's so wonderful about them is you don't have to plumb a regular drain and you don't have to wash the walls. You can build as much privacy as you want for them, even with a little latching wooden door. Whatever you build will last as long as it lasts and easy to rebuild in a few years if needed. They're super fun and they help take the pressure off your indoor showers when you have a lot of guests. You can get these little water heaters that are on demand and place it right by the shower. They can be solar or propane. Max of Max and Occy, and Tyler and Todd both built outdoor showers within the last year or so, so you could watch their videos if you want to get some ideas. do those roof panels have a thin layer of plastic on the underside? I watched another Portuguese reno and they stripped the plastic off both sides! This is a totally new roofing concept to me.

Another idea for plums is plum sauce. I grew up with my mum making it from our family trees. We always used it instead of tomato sauce. Delicious! It’s taken me a while to get it right but the secret was to keep boiling it until it became nice and thick. It lasts for simply years and years. If you want it I will find the recipe and give it to you.

Those look like cherry plums they are sweeter meatier and tastier. Better than normal plums.

Well, only those who don´t do it themself, don´t make mistakes! It is really frustrating but John, you are doing your best! I wouldn´t even beeing able to do it at all! I saw craftsmen drilling through elecrtical cords and stuff like this! You have acomplished sooooooo much and working on and on and on! You are doing so well! And Tara, I was like you on a big ladder! I once even froze high up for 5 minutes. But my Granny gave me an iron hook ,shaped like an "S", (butcher hook?). You can hook one part on the handle of the crade and the other part on the rung of the ladder! So you have both hands free to keep yourself save and to pick plums! To have more savety, she tied the ladder with a rope to the tree or to a branch. You are so brave up there! Nice episode! I loved it!

I suggest that you really need to get a freeze dryer. You can preserve food for up to 25 years in Mylar bags. Saves space in a freezer, and can be stored in a pantry. I wish I had known about them when I was younger and did canning and freezing. I’ll bet you might be able to get a sponsor to provide one for you to advertise for them.

I don’t stone plums when cooking, they detach from the flesh as they coo. If you are worried about not finding them all, count them in and count them out!

I think here in Canada we're calling it a Japanese Plum? They grow in the hedgerows here beside homesteads. When fully ripe, sweet and delicious. I stew them then sieve the pits out. Or, cook them into juice.

It’s so nice you all got to spend time with your family! ❤ What an interesting roofing material. I haven’t seen it before. It looks like it is so much easier to install than traditional types of roofing. When I moved from New Hampshire to New Orleans, LA., last September, I thought I would just need to do some painting. It was soon discovered that there was a leak in one of the bathrooms and the water had also traveled into the sub flooring in two of the bedrooms! Needless to say I had to have new flooring in all three rooms,and the old tub replaced with a new shower. I ended up with a much nicer bathroom with pretty tile and beautiful hardwood oak flooring in the bedrooms. So maybe sometimes a leak is not so bad?! 🤔😁

Make fruit leather from the plumbs. It’s very easy to make. You can sun dry them too. Also you can make a stew with the sour plumbs. We make it with chicken but you can substitute with mushrooms or tofu. I can send you a recipe if you like. Love to you all.

Not to worry about the air gap under the roofing. It is intentional and necessary to allow moisture to escape.

Cherry-plum in Portuguese 🇵🇹 is “Abrunheiro-de-jardim” commonly known as a type of: “Abrunho” (fruit) and “Abrunheiro” (tree).

You need a sky hook to pick your fruit. A sky hook is made of hard wire. With 2 hooks, one on each end of wire. One hook is on a strong limb near you. The other end is for your basket. Now your hands are free for picking. I hope you can have one made and like. Wire about a meter long, 2 strong hooks.

I so appreciate how you handle disappointments and also criticisms from your viewers. You handle both gently and with grace. I watch other channels and have to listen to rants about being criticized for what they do in their renovations. The criticism is unfortunately the price you pay for showing everything you do on line. I, personally, don't enjoy the rants from the youtubers. I try to fast forward through them. You, on the other hand, handle them so gently and quickly that I don't need to fast forward through it. Thanks so much for that! You work so hard and cheerfully through each challenging situations. Hi Guys, the purple plums = Victoria Plum variety. Green Plums are = Greengage, Red = Cherry Plum etc etc. I love plums all year round so I boil them with sugar, then decant into sterilised empty jam jars, when cold, I freeze them, hence have the luxury of all year round plums for crumble, pies, with hot custard or ice cream… you can also make plum chutney. We had lots of damson trees, which I cook the same way as the plums. I also I do the same with wild blackberries, oh and not forgetting to make loads of plum jam…. Your farm is a beautiful slice of heaven - sheer magic🫶🏻
